On Wednesday, September 20, Harvest Hope received a generous donation of $20,000 from Samsung Electronics America to assist in our disaster relief efforts.
Since Hurricane Irma hit South Carolina a few weeks ago, the South Carolina State Guard and over 100 volunteers partnered with Harvest Hope to pack over 45,000 disaster meals and 1,200 personal hygiene kits.
“We are so blessed to receive this incredible donation from Samsung,” said Harvest Hope CEO Denise Holland. “South Carolina benefits from companies like Samsung calling this state their home and for them to provide assistance to our efforts to work with disaster victims across our region is such an honor.”
Harvest Hope Food Bank is the Lead Food Bank for Disaster response in South Carolina as designated by the SC Food Bank Association with a MOU with the South Carolina Emergency Division. In the aftermath of the flooding of October 2015, Harvest Hope provided more than 2.3 million meals and continued offering food pantries to victims until eight months after the flood event. In the weeks after the devastation of Hurricane Matthew, Harvest Hope distributed over 600,000 meals and dispatched more than a dozen mobile food pantries around South Carolina.
“Samsung is delighted to provide a donation to assist Harvest Hope in their continued disaster relief efforts,” said Samsung Electronics of America Executive Vice President Joe Stinziano. “South Carolina is lucky to have such an incredible organization willing to focus not only on those who need it most but to serve as a resource during some of the state’s most trying times.”
