The South Carolina Forestry Commission is encouraging landowners to place their tree seedling orders for winter planting before they will be made available for out-of-state sales after December 1.
ArborGen's Taylor Nursery in Edgefield County has more than 1 million seedlings left for sale at special South Carolina landowner pricing. These seedlings include more than 700,000 of the nursery's fastest growing loblolly pine selection and a large selection of oaks and other popular hardwoods, including dogwood and redbud. Small quantities of shortleaf and white pine are also available for Upstate landowners.
"South Carolina landowners start thinking about tree planting when the weather cools in the fall," said Tim Adams, SC Forestry Commission Resource Development Director. "We want to make sure that everybody has ample time to order their seedlings before we open up out-of-state sales."
The purpose of the Forestry Commission's seedling program is to provide a diverse selection of genetically improved seedlings to South Carolina landowners for timber and Christmas tree production as well as wildlife and wetland habitat improvements.
Contact Taylor Nursery at (803) 275-3578 to place an order, and be sure to ask for the South Carolina landowner pricing, which will only apply to the first 100,000 seedlings ordered annually by each qualified landowner. Landowners must plant the seedlings in South Carolina to be eligible for the special pricing.
